The Kees and Claire Hut re-opens on August 7!
These last few months have been very challenging. We hope that all our supporters have faired well through the COVID-19 pandemic and are enjoying a summer of local outdoor activities with close family and friends.
Today we are pleased to announce the re-opening of the Kees and Claire Hut on August 7 for the summer and fall hiking season. In order to provide a greater level of safety for our visitors and staff at the hut, new policies and booking procedures have been developed following guidelines from BC Parks, the Provincial Health Authority, and WorksafeBC. Bookings are available now up until Oct 31, 2020. The hut will accommodate a single group of up to 16 people for a 3-night stay of Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. The fee is $2400 for the group. Please see all the booking details and requirements at our reservations page. Then make your booking by contacting the booking agent at firstname.lastname@example.org
Visitors to the Kees and Claire Hut this summer will notice a few changes…
- The Himmelsbach Hut at the northern shore of Russet Lake has been removed by BC Parks and relocated to Sprout Mountain, where it will serve as a base for search and rescue.
- BC Parks has installed new signage, both outside and inside the hut, educating people on the flourishing local marmot population. New fencing has been installed to remind people not to travel down the lush slope between the hut and the lake where the marmots abound. A multi-year marmot study has begun by BC Parks and marmot biologist, Dr. Malcolm McAdie.
- The Spearhead Huts Society has completed work to our septic system and top dressed the septic field to encourage the re-establishment of native sedges and flowers.
We hope everyone enjoys some mountain scenery this summer while staying safe!
All the best from the Spearhead Huts Society.
