Since the 1970’s there has been a dream to link the Spearhead Range with a system of huts
The Vision
Kees And Claire Memorial Hut
Situated above Russett Lake within Garibaldi Provincial Park, at the foot of mountains like Whirlwind Peak, the Kees and Claire Hut is the first of three huts in the project. Not only will this hut be a key piece of the Spearhead Traverse experience, but it can also serve as a destination for day based ski touring and summer hiking. With 38 bunks this is the largest hut in the project.
Macbeth Hut
The next hut to be built as part of the 3 hut system will be located on Mt Macbeth, at the approximate midpoint of the Spearhead Traverse. This upcoming hut was made possible by an extremely generous donation from Brian and Andrea Thomas Hill.
The designer and engineers for the hut have been engaged and schematic design work is underway. Construction on site is expected to begin in the summer of 2025.
Pattison Hut
The 3rd and final hut within the Spearhead Huts system will be located on the north end of the range (closest to Blackcomb). It will be situated close to the summit of Mt Pattison and will be accessible in summer and winter.
The size and form of this hut has not yet been determined but will likely be similar in size to the Macbeth Hut due to the site limitations.
Working Together
To get to where we are today we needed a little help along the way. A combined group effort that required hundreds of volunteer hours and collaboration with several organizations to help us bring our vision to fruition. Among our earliest supporters, the Alpine Club of Canada and the British Columbia Mountaineering Club have been working with us since we took our first steps.
These clubs have always been staunch supporters of the backcountry community and have helped our community learn to enjoy the mountains safely for decades.
Check them out for yourselves!
